3D Laser Scanning is used primarily where very complex parts are required to be
reproduced. Items such as moulds, turbine blades with complex aerofoils and
geometries are typical examples. Other items such as the impeller shown in the
picture which have variable angled vanes are also typical of the type of items
ideally suited to 3D Laser Scanning.
The scanning process collects 18,000 points per sq. inch which would be
impossible to collect manually. The scanning is so accurate that it will
reproduce every surface imperfection in extreme detail. Since these fine
imperfections are not desirable in the finished product, additional software is
used to recreate the final surface required. With this type of equipment, the
possibilities are limitless! |
